Spooks season 5, eps 1 to 4, preview for 5-5 Sep. 29th, 2006 @ 09:54 pm
I don't think I've ever talked about this show, because I never think about it as an LJ thing, but as that show I watch with my brother (who now lives in London, ha!). I watched season 1 ages ago, took a long time to catch up on it, and finally watched the end of season 2, plus season 3 and 4 this summer, just in time to get up to date before the beginning of season 5. - Oh, that was my first update in nearly two months. Waves at f-list!

Jul. 30th, 2006 @ 08:17 pm
This probably won't mean anything to my mostly English-speaking f-list, but Pierre Vidal-Naquet died yesterday. He was a historian, primarily a specialist of Ancient Greece, but he was much more than that: the son of resistants who died in Auschwitz, an intellectuel engagé, one of the people who, with Jérôme Lindon and others, was at the forefront of the opposition to the Algerian war and to colonialism in general, who denounced torture in Algeria when that could send you to jail (he wrote several books on the crimes of the French army in Algeria) and who, later, never stopped fighting against negationism. He was an excellent historian, an admirable man and his death saddens me.

That BSG season 3 promo Jul. 19th, 2006 @ 07:06 pm
Okay, it's only July and the excitement is back! A few comments: (no spoilers beyond the promo, and please don't spoil me if you commentRead more... )

BSG, I missed you. I'm still equanimous about the hiatus (I'll probably become twitchy in September), so it's okay. I just hope season 3 will be as great as season 1 or the first half of season 2.
Current Mood: optimistic

- Oh god it's hot. HOT. Yep, heatwaves are FUN. It's supposed to lead to storms starting tomorrow, and I CAN'T WAIT. It's so hot I have a headache and can't eat anything but yogurt and apricots. I normally go running at the end of the day, but I've had to switch to dawn because this is too awful. That's when I really miss living by the ocean. Or even a big lake. *pines for the fjords Alps. Only three days to wait.*

- The Tour de France has got to be the boringest of boring sporting events ever. For as long as I can remember, it has always made my eyes glaze over. Okay, curling is probably worse, but it doesn't last one long month, right? So boring. So so boring. I love cycling, but I can't comprehend watching it on TV.

- For some reason, several shows have been sitting on my computer for months, I still have to catch up on them, and I'm not really motivated. The last 10 eps of Dr Who. All of Foyle's War. Seasons 2, 3 and 4 of Spooks, despite the fact that I love this show to pieces. I don't know.

- Still haven't seen Superman returns. I might go see Pirates 2 next week, but I'm one of the people who reasonably liked the first one, without thinking it was extraordinary. And in coolness points, I tend to think that pirates come third behind musketeers and Robin Hood's outlaws (It's the archers. Archers are just cool.)

- Went shopping, didn't find anything I liked, ended up buying the most darling yellow shoes to go with my niece's favourite dress.

- I miss Battlestar Galactica. And Starbuck. And Papadama.

France - Italy Final Jul. 9th, 2006 @ 08:24 pm

Half-time, and I'm having a sudden attack of superstition. GAH.

France - Portugal semi-final Jul. 5th, 2006 @ 10:53 pm
Okay, I knew that this match wouldn't be as beautiful as France-Brazil, whew, that was close )

France - Brésil Jul. 1st, 2006 @ 11:00 pm
Here again, another match I nearly didn't watch because I was too stressed out, but it was a good thing I finally did (as if!): Read more... )

Yes, zis is still about football (only two more weeks to go, people who call it soccer) Jun. 27th, 2006 @ 10:51 pm

Oh god, the KING OF SMARM is on TV to non explain 1)his lack of any coherent policy, 2)why he went through another prime minister because anyone is better than his arch-enemy Sarkozy, 3)why the French have NO REASON WHATSOEVER to be depressed by the state of politics in this country. He could drive you to suicide or exile, I swear. Oh, Jacques Chirac, I hate you SO MUCH!

Hint: When your supposed model, De Gaulle, realised that his policies and himself weren't so popular, and when his referendum was rejected, he had the dignity (or petulance, maybe, in his case. Whatever works.) to resign and go sulk to his heart's content in Colombey. The key word here is "dignity". Grrr.

In Futebol news, Italy - Australia )

Futebol: Portugal - Holanda Jun. 25th, 2006 @ 10:57 pm
So, Portugal vs Netherlands: this is how you end up with white hair, I swear )
